Before Surgery

  1. PLEASE DO NOT eat anything solid after midnight the night before your surgery. This includes milk. You may have a SIP of water to take with your medications the morning of surgery. If your surgery is after 2pm, you may have a lite snack early in the morning (by 6am). You must have an 8 hour period of nothing to eat prior to your check in time. This includes milk products. You may drink clear liquids (no alcohol) up to 3 hours prior to check in. This is for your safety. Failure to follow these instructions could result in the cancellation of your surgery.
  2. YOU MUST have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you following your surgery. For safety purposes, we cannot allow you to take a taxi cab or any other public transportation home unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
  3. Please consult with your surgeon regarding any medications you currently take.
  4. Please bring a list of current medications with you that includes any vitamins, herbals and over the counter medications. Please include dosages, the reason you take the medication, and when you took your last dose.
  5. You should receive a phone call from one of our nurses approximately 24-48 hours prior to your surgery to discuss your health status, current medications, allergies, and other pre-op information. If you do not receive a call from a nurse, please call 702-489-3555.
  6. Your surgeon may write a prescription for you for medication(s) to take after surgery that you will be using at home. The Medical and Dental Center of Nevada cannot fill your prescription. You will need to be prepared to purchase your medication(s) at your pharmacy of choice. If your surgeon gives you a prescription in his office prior to the day of your scheduled surgery, please get it filled ahead of time so you have the medication(s) ready once you return home from the surgery.
  7. If you wear contact lenses, please bring the lens case with you or wear your glasses the day of your surgery.
  8. Please be sure to bring your photo ID and insurance card with you. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian to sign the consent prior to surgery. If you have medical power of attorney or guardianship papers signed by the court, you must bring them with you.
  9. Please be sure to bring any payment with you if owed prior to surgery.
  10. Please leave all valuables at home. All jewelry must be removed, including ALL body piercings.
  11. Please arrive one hour prior to your scheduled surgery, or as directed by your pre-op nurse.
  12. If you develop a cold or persistent cough, fever, or any other health related problems, or need to cancel your surgery for any reason, please notify your surgeon or call the Medical and Dental Center of Nevada.
